The sun in the storm (someone cryin')

Tormenta is the eighth track and sixth single from Gorillaz' eighth studio album, Cracker Island. The song features Puerto Rican rapper and singer Bad Bunny.

Before being released as part of Cracker Island, the song was uploaded to Gorillaz' official YouTube Topic channel on the 23rd of February along with Oil, before being privated until the next day only a few minutes later.

Background

One hell of a ride, this track. We were in Jamaica when we recorded this. Right in the middle of a cyclone. The wind was howling, the rain was lashing down, palm trees were bending as if they were made of salami. It was as if the universe was trying to tell us something. And there we were in the middle of it forging something beautiful out of the chaos. I was the almighty, conducting a symphony out of nature, and 'Tormenta' was my magnum opus. I gotta say, collaborating with Bad Bunny was incredible. That boy's got some real talent.
~ Murdoc Niccals, Cracker Island Listening Party & Q&A[1]

Tormenta was recorded at some point during the Meanwhile EP sessions in mid-2021,[2] becoming the first completed track for Cracker Island. The song was officially confirmed on 16 September 2021 during an interview with WARP, and was originally intended to be the lead single for the second season of Song Machine.[3] Damon attributes the collaboration to his daughter, Missy, and her friend, Salima, who both attended a Spanish school in London and developed an appreciation for Latin music and reggaeton.[2]

After a prolonged period of exchanging messages, they finally met up in Jamaica and spontaneously recorded the track during an afternoon storm, the sound of which was left on the recording.[2][4] Bad Bunny arrived without his passport via private jet, but was still granted entry by Jamaica's prime minister on the condition that they would make him a dubplateW.[5] Later on, Damon attempted to make adjustments to the song, but ultimately decided to leave it as it was.[6]

Lyrics

[Chorus: 2-D & Bad Bunny]
The sun in the storm (Sun in the storm; someone cryin')
Someone cryin' (Someone, someone, someone, someone)
Something is said (Someone cryin')
Someone cryin' (Someone, someone, someone, someone)
Ey, ey

[Refrain: Bad Bunny]
Y aprovéchame hoy, que mañana me voy
Y no sé cuándo vuelvo si en tus ojo' me pierdo
Y aprovéchame hoy, que mañana me voy
Y no sé cuándo vuelvo si en tus ojo' me pierdo

[Verse 1: Bad Bunny]

[Refrain: Bad Bunny]
Aprovéchame hoy
Ey, ey

[Verse 2: Bad Bunny]

[Refrain: Bad Bunny]
Aprovéchame hoy

[Chorus: 2-D]
The sun in the storm (Sun in the storm; someone cryin')
Someone cryin' (Someone, someone, someone, someone)
Something is said (Someone cryin')
Someone cryin' (Someone, someone, someone, someone)
Something is—

[Outro: 2-D]
The sun in the storm (Sun in the storm; someone cryin')
Someone cryin' (Someone, someone, someone, someone, someone, someone, someone, someone)
