Throughout all phases of Gorillaz, there have been many minor characters that only appeared once or twice. This page is a list of all of them.
Recurring Characters
Father & Daughter
The Daughter in Phase 2
The Cafe Owners worked at the Cafe in Kong Studios from Phase 1 to Phase 2.
The family (father and daughter) that ran the cafe were of presumably Japanese descent. It is assumed that the father cooked and the daughter grew up to become the waitress in Phase 2.
"Chilling like there is always a tomorrow"
In the Phase Two: Slowboat To Hades DVD, inside Kong Studios, there is a pair consisting of a bi polar bear and a crocodile who sit in the music room. If you click on the polar bear he will tell you a random story, then his pants will fall down, with the croc saying "That's what I'm talking about!". If you click on the crocodile he will say a random phrase.
The polar bear was shown as a cameo in the MTV Cribs special, as well as on the Phase Two: Slowboat To Hades DVD.
The pair return in the Plastic Beach website, floating near the island on pool rafts. You can see them through a pair of binoculars, but you can barely hear them.
In the credits for the Slowboat to Hades DVD, the Polar Bear's voice actor is credited to Geoffrey Nolan while the Crocodile is credited to Remi Kabaka Jr. (who also voices Russel).
Upon Kong Studios' return in 2025, the Polar Bear (now voiced by Remi Kabaka Jr.) relocated to Russel's room where he recites poetry in the form of Gorillaz lyrics, while the crocodile moved to 2-D's room.
Sir Emerick Khong was the original owner of Khong Mansion which later became Kong Studios.
The site was once a cemetery or body dump for those who died during the Plague of 1665 after being used as a meeting point for the Goat Clan, a clan of druids. Emerick erected his mansion upon the body dump years later.
On Rise of the Ogre, Murdoc states that Khong had the mansion be built so he could host his endless parties and that his ghost continued to live in Kong Studios long after his death, "hungover for all eternity". The moaning present on Tomorrow Comes Today is also attributed to him in his search for painkillers.[1][2]
David Tusspot is the husband of Rachel Tusspot and father of 2-D. Very little is known about him, other than, when Stuart was still a child, they lived at a "comfortable family home" in Crawley New Town later owned a fairground named after his surname. Around the time of Stuart's birth, David and Rachel decided to shorten his last time from "Tusspot" to simply "Pot" to prevent him from undergoing a "lifetime of ridicule".
On Rise of the Ogre, David is described as a "mechanic and all-round electronic tinker-er for fairground rides".Rachel Tusspot is the wife of David Tusspot and mother of 2-D. Even less is known about her, though Rise of the Ogre describes her as a "big-breasted nurse" the one who secured the "endless supply of painkillers" for Stuart's constant and painful migraines.
2-D's unnamed aunt was briefly mentioned during 2-D and Murdoc's re-cap video of Rock The House, in which Murdoc mentions he wore his outfit from the music video a second time during her wedding, moving the guests to tears. 2-D then corrects him and says that it was instead her funeral, to which Murdoc responds by saying it "livened the place up". Is not known whose sister she was, David's or Rachel's.

Mr. Maggits
Mr. Maggits[3] is the bongo-playing ape who was originally intended to be a member of the band in its early conception, but this idea was quickly abandoned. Nevertheless, he appears in some illustrations and was even going to be an accessory in a cancelled 2002 series of Gorillaz Art Asylum figures. In an interview with Gorillaz Wiki, Mat Wakeham stated that "he was merely a cool drawing that never served an ongoing purpose" and to not overthink it.[4]
According to Noodle, Mr. Maggits was booted out of the band due to conflicts of personal interest.[3]

The Lobby Monkeys, also known as News Monkeys, were three chimps who could be found behind the news counter on Kong Studios' Ground Floor Lobby during Phase 1. They were eventually replaced by the Spacemonkeyz when Laika Come Home was released.
There are three monkeys, two wearing blue and red shirts, while the third wears a yellow shirt. The three monkeys sit with their hands holding their heads, looking discontent or upset. One covers its eyes, one covers its ears, and one covers its mouth, similar to the three wise monkeys: see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil.
The Beat Box Bandit was a character who used to be present on Russel's Room in Kong Studios during Phase One. His silhouette also appeared on various loading screens from games or rooms at the website.
He made a remix of the song "Rock the House" named "Rock the House (Beat Box Bandit Remix)" exclusive to the Gorillaz website, and could be played in the form of a vinyl disc on Russel's record player on the same room.
The Evil Twins lurk around the corridors of Kong Studios, normally outside the toilets. They have appeared in the "Rock the House" music video and Murdoc's Winnebago key video from the self-titled CD. They are based on the twins from the 1980 movie The ShiningW.
The Twins return in the restored Kong Studios, appearing in the ground floor corridor and watching the player.

"Melt its face, melt its face!"
Russel's Eel appears in its self-titled G-Bite The Eel.
2-D tries to knock the eel out with a mallet for Russel until Murdoc walks in, telling 2-D to stop the banging. When 2-D announces that he can't kill it, Murdoc then grabs a hold of the eel and takes it to the oven where he attempts to "melt its face". 2-D is worried that Murdoc will mess up and get burned, so he begins to bite his nails. Russel then walks in, asking where his eel is. Murdoc says that it feels "eel (ill)", and holds up the dead eel. The phrase "melt its face" made another appearance as graffiti on the Pac-Man cabinet in the video for PAC-MAN.
The Giant Elk was shown in the 19-2000 music video. By the look between him and the closest lamp post near his front left foot in calculations, the moose's height has to be close to 150 feet in height (three times the height of a Brachiosaurus).
Murdoc activates a secret mode of the Geep and fires two missiles at the moose, but he sneezes before the missiles hit him. The force is strong enough to make the missiles come hurtling back to earth on top of the Geep. The last shot is one of the Gorillaz looking worse for wear.
According to Rise of the Ogre, the elk was hired by Jamie Hewlett from an animal actors agency to be was used as a metaphor for creative intrusion – which, to gain an authentic on-screen reaction, he neglected to tell the band.
- Trivia
- The G-Flat documents erroneously refer to the animal as a moose instead of an elk.
The Mechanic from 19-2000 was shown at his petrol station along the highways near the salvation church. He wears a red shirt with blue overalls, as well as a green hat with the name Dwight written on, leading many to believe his name is Dwight.
All of his petrol pumps indicate that there are 3,472 liters of petrol left inside each one.
The UFO spots his Petrol station along the way while it was trying to burn up the Gorillaz for making the wrong turn. It blows up the petrol station for a flammable gas explosion to try and destroy the Gorillaz driving by in that distance. The Mechanic perished in the flames.
Inka The Ink Based Girl, also known as Inka Black,[5] was a fan created character seen on a GeoCities website[6] bookmarked on Murdoc's laptop. She is a groupie who appears to have had a relationship with Murdoc at some point, as evidenced by the many seductive photos of herself she took for him. It's likely that she's a fan of anime and other Japanese media based on one of her photos being labelled with the word "otaku," a term commonly used to describe anime and other Japanese media fans.
Inka was linked to the site by Zombie Flesh Eaters - self-insert ships were not commonplace during the time, and Zombie Flesh Eater members found the idea funny enough to make canon.
- Trivia
- Inka's favourite Gorillaz song at the moment of Phase 1 was Rock The House.[5]

Sebastian Jacob Niccals (or Jacob Sebastian Niccals, depending on who's asking) was born in 1941 and is the father of Murdoc Niccals. In the Gorillaz autobiography, Rise of the Ogre, he is described as a notorious boozehound, gambler, womanizer, and ne'er-do-well. He was rumored to have fathered many children in the land of Stoke-on-Trent, and always avoided work, no matter what the cost. He first discovered Murdoc as a baby abandoned on his doorstep one night while arriving home from the pub. Over the years, he often forced Murdoc into taking part in talent contests in order to make some fast money. He died in 1998.
He has an appearance inside the Winnebago on a picture frame in Gorillaz - MTV Cribs. The plaque under the picture says "Dad - Sebastian Niccals". He was also featured in Murdoc's Winnebago from Phase 1.

- Main Article: Jimmy Manson
Jimmy Manson, also known as "Wee Jimmy Manson" was a 3 ft. tall hippie musician who once auditioned for the role of a guitar player for the Gorillaz at Kong Studios, but was turned down, along with many others by Murdoc after the job was taken by Noodle. Years later, he became the head of the Gorillaz music label Stateside, with a plan to kill off the Gorillaz and cash in on their success.
During the production of the "El Mañana" video in 2006, Murdoc approached Jimmy and offered to team up with him to complete his plan. Murdoc was to secretly stash a couple of guns in the windmill tower on the floating island, while Jimmy was to hide inside the tower and wait until the helicopters start firing. Then Manson was to come out from hiding, get the guns, kill Noodle, and parachute off the island. The cameras started rolling on March 7th, 2006. As the helicopters fired on the windmill island, Jimmy discovered that Murdoc had set him up by locking him inside the tower with no guns. While Noodle parachuted off the island safely, the island crashed, burned, and blown up, killing Jimmy Manson in the process. Murdoc was the last to see him alive.Phase 3 Characters
The Manatee is a large sea creature, that appears in the On Melancholy Hill music video, sitting on top of a tall plateau near Plastic Beach. When the band arrives, Murdoc emerges from his submarine and, upon taking a look with his telescope, notices the Manatee with the Boogieman leaning over it and stroking its back. he then orders Cyborg Noodle to attack the Boogieman. However, Cyborg misses the Boogieman and only shoots holes in its cape, prompting the Boogieman to take the Manatee into the ocean with him, killing it.[8]
- Trivia
- He is referenced in the lyrics of On Melancholy Hill ("Up on Melancholy Hill, sits a manatee").
- Main Article: Rick Black
Rick Black, also known as Big Rick Black, is the morbidly obese owner of Big Rick Black's Record Shack, where Russel used to work at prior to being kidnapped by Murdoc. During the construction of Plastic Beach, the record shop somehow ended up on its shore, where it remained until the island was destroyed. Due to his immense size, Rick was unable to leave and is presumed dead. He is also a loyal Gorillaz fan and owns every single one of their releases on CD, vinyl, cassette and digital formats.
- Trivia
- Rick also has his own defunct Twitter account, making him one of the few Gorillaz characters to have a social media account, including the band itself and Cyborg Noodle.

Massive Dick was a great white whale hired by Murdoc to prevent 2-D (who suffers from cetaphobia, an irrational fear of whales) from escaping his underwater compartment at Plastic Beach. To fend off the whale, 2-D built the Donk Machine. During the attack on Plastic Beach, Massive tried to eat 2-D with his room, but was stopped by a giant Russel who threw him at a Black Clouds plane. Despite this, the whale survived and still managed to eat 2-D. However, a lifetime of eating ocean garbage had taken its toll, killing Massive Dick. His body washed up at Guadalupe and was eventually eaten by 2-D.[9]
- Trivia
- The unreleased song Leviathan was dedicated to the whale.[10]
- In The Lost Chord music video, 2-D spits out a miniature whale similar to Massive, recalling his experience of being eaten by him.
Marvin Niccals is Murdoc's uncle, who worked with the legendary band The WhoW, helping set off the explosives in Keith MoonW's bass drum during their performance on The Smothers Brothers Comedy HourW TV show on 17 September 1967 (pictured left). This particular incident is rumoured to have caused Pete TownshendW's notorious case of tinnitus.[11]

The Forever Cult was just one of many cults inhabiting Los Angeles, but this particular cult began in 1923 when during the filming of The Hills Are Hungry an unfortunate crew member from the Forever and Ever Pictures studio fell into a pit under the Hollywood SignW and was devoured by a demon. After deciding to cover up the incident, they continued production and released the film to negative reviews. Over time, the crew realised that they had stopped ageing. 25 years later, when the miracle wore off, they made another sacrifice and formed the Forever Cult, with the studio's founder, Lady Hollodown (now Moon Flower), as their high priestess. They continued to make sacrifices every 25 years to stay young until Gorillaz moved in next door and 2-D was chosen as their latest sacrifice. Feeling immense guilt and having a change of heart, Moon Flower helped the band by leaving them clues in hope that they could break the cycle, which they eventually did in the music video for Silent Running, in which they killed the Hollywood Demon. With the demon's death and its curse no longer sustaining them, the cultists dissipated into dust.[16]

The Hollywood Demon was a legendary demon who lived in a pit beneath the Hollywood sign. For 100 years, he granted the Forever Cult immortality in exchange for the sacrifice of a pure soul every 25 years. However, he eventually met his end after inadvertently swallowing the Essence of Murdoc in an attempt to eat 2-D, which caused him to explode. After his death, 2-D visited the demon's disembodied head, telling it that he bore no grudges and playing for it on the melodica, He also promised to visit if he was ever in the area.[17]

- The demon bears some resemblance to Pazuzu.

Rosemary is the ditzy receptionist at the renovated Kong Studios building. She will help you to register at Kong, and if prompted, she will ask you some Gorillaz-related questions (e.g. which is your favourite Gorillaz album). Once the question pool has been exhausted, you can ask her about other things instead, such as the old Kong building or the release date of the new album.
She is based on the character of the same name from the 1974 American Saturday morning cartoon series Hong Kong PhooeyW, which is referenced in one of the player's questions to her.
- Trivia
- During her job interview, 2-D sang Clint Eastwood to her.

Alan is a Muppet-like character, who appears on The Mountain Tour, usually during performances of 19-2000 and sometimes on other songs, like Clint Eastwood or Andromeda. He wheels out a button that says "Algorithmic Atrophy", which Damon then presses to active an algorithmic randomizer, which projects various imagery (i.e. memes) on top of the visuals.
Alan is played by a roadie named Alan "Buddy" Goulding[18] and was designed by prop maker Bryony M Rumble, with hair provided by Claire Milliner, and was originally named Ken.[19]
